Susie Mae Porter Senn, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday,
December 9, 2022, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She was
surrounded by her loving family.
A graveside service will be held at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home
and Cemetery on Saturday December 17, 2022, at 12:00 with Pastor Steven Pylant
officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 in the chapel at
Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 1498 5th Avenue,
Pleasant Grove, Alabama 35127. Pallbearers for Mrs. Senn include Douglas
Skinner, Alexander Skinner, Stephen Skinner, Andrew Skinner, Christian LeBlanc,
and David Snodgrass.
Susie Senn was born February 14, 1930, in Mount Hope, Alabama to the
late Russian Cleere and Selma Ruth Porter. She graduated from Mount Hope High
School in 1948. After being employed briefly by US Steel in Birmingham, Alabama
where she met her future husband, she went to work for South Central Bell
where she retired in 1991 with over 35 years of service.
She was married to Raymont Senn of Ariton, Alabama. They were married
in November of 1957 in Fairfield, Alabama in the home of close friends. They
resided in Pleasant Grove, Alabama for the entirety of their 48 years together and
where she lived until her death.
She attended Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene for years where she
had many friends. She loved God and had a servant’s heart. She donated funds
and her time to many Christian organizations, including Jimmie Hale Mission in
Birmingham, Alabama where her and her husband volunteered frequently in
years past. She wanted to help people and try to make sure that as many as
possible had a warm meal and a warm place to sleep. She loved spending time in
her yard and garden, tending to her flower beds, and caring for her multiple pets.
She also loved reading her Bible, listening to gospel music, word puzzles, solving
mysteries with Matlock on TV, watching Alabama Football on Saturdays, and
spending time with her family. Throughout her life she loved to spend time with
her brothers, sisters and their spouses, her husband’s family, and a multitude of
nieces and nephews. Most of all she loved spending time with her daughter
Rebecca and her son-in-law Warren, her grandchildren and their spouses, and her
great-grandson who brightened her last days.Mrs. Senn was preceded in death by her husband Raymont Senn, her
daughter Jan Renee Senn, her parents, three brothers, Eugene Porter, Kenneth
Porter, and Glen Porter. Her surviving relatives include her daughter Rebecca
Skinner (Warren), Pleasant Grove, AL; her eleven grandchildren, Ashley Skinner,
Pleasant Grove, AL, Tiffany LeBlanc (Christian), Tuscaloosa, AL, Layla Skinner,
Pleasant Grove, AL, Douglas Skinner (Elizabeth), Pelham, AL, Alexander Skinner
(Jessica), Hueytown, AL, Elizabeth Skinner, Tuscaloosa, AL, Stephen Skinner,
Pleasant Grove, AL, Andrew Skinner, Pleasant Grove, AL, Miriam Skinner, Pleasant
Grove, AL, Micah Skinner, Pleasant Grove, AL, and Daniel Skinner, Pleasant Grove,
AL; four great-grandchildren, Sylas LeBlanc, Tuscaloosa, AL, Embyr LeBlanc,
Tuscaloosa, AL, Clement Skinner, Pelham, AL, and Matthew Skinner, Hueytown,
AL; her three sisters, Mildred Kidd (JD), Decatur, AL, Annie Adams (Robert),
Mason, OH, and Elaine Terry (Willard), Moulton, AL; and her three brothers,
William Porter (Rose), Cincinnati, OH, Elton Porter (Gayle), Moulton, AL, and
Arnold Porter (Diane), Mount Hope, AL.
She now rests in the arms of her Heavenly Father
