Mrs. Sharon Jacobs died Monday, March 4, 2024. She was 85 years old. Sharon was born in Alabama on September 22, 1938 to Ed and Margie Baughn. Raised in the Hueytown area of west Birmingham, Sharon helped her father run a small grocery store. She graduated Hueytown High School and soon after married Ron Beck, who was active in the Navy. In the next ten years they would have three sons. Sharon was a true stay at home mom running the affairs of the household and raising her sons. She was the kind who always had dinner on the table at the end of the workday, who started the day at sunrise making sure her boys had what they needed to win the day. She was very much like the Proverbs 31 woman of faith: “She is clothed with strength and dignity…when she speaks, her words are wise and she gives instructions with kindness…there are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all…a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised.” Sharon was a woman of faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. She found her most meaningful relationships in the church. She was very much involved in the Garywood Assembly of God in its early, growing days. Sharon led Bible study groups, hosted prayer meetings in her home, and even had a radio program where she showed women how to find biblical help for their marriages and homes. Called “For Women Only,” this program ran on WYAM radio. Sharon was quite the musician and entertainer as well. She played 4-string guitar and sang along with fun tunes such as “Has Anybody Seen My Gal?” and “Smoke that Cigarette!” She sang in the church choirs and often led the church in worship with spiritual songs such as “He Touched Me,” and “One Day at a Time.” More often than not, her meal preps and other household chores were accompanied by her own joy filled singing. Many times life was very difficult for Sharon, but those troubles were incapable of stealing her joy. She was always able to find the light of hope despite the darkness so that, because of her faith in the Lord, she rejoiced with a glorious, inexpressible joy. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Margie Baughn, and her husbands, Ron Beck and Tom Jacobs. She is survived by her brother, Shorty Baughn and his wife, Martha; her sons, Ron Beck, Jr., John Beck and his wife, Sue, and Jason Beck and his wife, Melissa; grandchildren Joel Beck and his wife, Sarah, Laura Beck, and great grandchildren, Sam and Charlie Beck.
