Gast, Nada Kay (Curry), age 62, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Alabama. She was the only daughter of Mary Jane (Janie) (O'Howell) Johnson and James Lynnville Johnson, who both pre-deceased her. She was the grandaughter of the late George E. Johnson, Sr. and Pauline (Ayer) Johnson and the late James Grills O'Howell and Iva Ada (Smith) O'Howell of Missouri.
Nada was born in Fairfield, Alabama on August 14,1960. She was married to Neal Stephen Gast for 43 years until his passing on February 1, 2020. She was pre-deceased by their first child, Lauren Denay Gast, She is survived by a loving family that include 3 other children; Austin Neal Gast, Holly Lou Gast Nelson (Chris) and Taylor Stephen Gast (Mendi).
She was a beloved grandmother to five grandchildren: Aidan Michael Nelson, Liston Christopher Nelson, Arlen Neal Nelson, Cooper Stephen Gast and Caroline Grace Gast.
She is also survived by her older brother, Johnny L. Curry (Mary) and younger brothers Randy Johnson (Scot) and John D. Curry (Alisha), and many nieces and nephews.
Nada was a devout Christian who loved The Lord. Raised in the Baptist church for many years and later attended services at Garywood Assembly of God in Hueytown.
She started 1st grade at Hemphill School in Birmingham until the Fall of 1968 when she returned with the family to Hueytown. She attended Hueytown Elementary, Pittman Jr. High School and Hueytown High School. She worked for Baptist Medical in the Art Department for many years and eventually left to devote her days to loving and raising her children.
Influenced heavily by her grandmother, Pauline Ayer Johnson, she grew up with a passion and love for art and nature. She spent a lifetime painting, crafting, floral arranging, gardening and passing the same interests along to the grandchildren she loved.
She leaves a legacy of love for her family and a strong faith in God.
She will be interred with her husband at Patterson-Forest Grove Cemetery on Friday, April 28, 2023. The memorial service will be held in the Garden of Everlasting Life at 6:00 PM at Patterson-Forest Grove Memorial Gardens.
