Michael “Mike” Aaron Evans of McCalla, AL went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 17, 2017 at the age of 61. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Ray Evans; and brother-in-law, Kenny Mallard. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Curry Evans; children, Michael Evans, (Brooke), Alexis Williams (Chris) and Meghan Handley (Spencer); grandchildren, Raylee and Fisher Evans, Bristol and Oliver Williams, and Amelia Handley; mother, Dorothy Evans; sisters, Donna Mallard, Sheryl Crumpton (Bob), and Kim Kane (Dan); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Mike was born in Birmingham, AL on June 25, 1956. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and continued his education at Bessemer State Technical College. Mike was an incredibly hard worker, dedicating 31 years to his career at Jim Walter Resources, and 10 years at the U.S. Department of Labor.
Mike’s greatest joy in life was his family. Many weekends were spent making memories with his devoted wife of 41 years on their sailboat. Mike was a true family man with a servant’s heart. He had a gifted ability to build or fix anything, and used this gift every chance he could to put smiles on the faces of his children and grandchildren. Mike also enjoyed riding his horses, cheering on the Auburn tigers, and fishing with his best friend. The family will receive friends at Pleasant Grove Assembly of God on Saturday, September 23rd from 9:00AM to 11:00PM with a memorial service immediately following at 11:00. Burial following at Highland Memorial Gardens. Bro. Bruce McCartney will officiate.
