After a long health battle, Melvin went to sleep to go be with Jesus. He was retired from Guaranty Pest Control, Bessemer Police Department, Special Investigator for Attorney General Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. He was active with the US Army in his youth. He was a member of Gideon's International. Survived by his wife, Lela A. Cope; son, Christopher Cope; daughter, Susan Hogg; brother, Jimmy Garrison; sister-in-law, Nancy Antinoro; granddaughter, Jennifer Bright (Thomas) Hearle; grandsons, Jeremiah Cope, Micah Cope, Mitchell (Michelle) Bright and Nathan Cope; great granddaughters, Alexis and Ava Hearle; great grandsons, Troy Bright, Cody Bright and Michael Hearle; niece, Beverly Bailey; nephew, Andy Antinoro.
He was a member of New Life Assembly of God in Woodstock-Pastor Chad Payne. in lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to New Life Assembly of God in Woodstock and/or Gideon's International in Bessemer. Memorial service will be Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM at New Life Assembly of God Woodstock.
