Mary Ruth Odom Smith Adams

Mary Ruth Odom Smith Adams was born on August 8th, 1938 in Goodsprings, AL. Mary was one of 9 children born to Martha Brown Odom and Henson Odom. Mary married Walter Lee Smith in Oakman, AL on August 9th, 1954. Mary and Walter were married 52 years and had four children.
Mary was an unbelievable cook and servant to the Lord. She was well loved by all who met her or knew her. Each day of Mary’s life was devoted to caring for others. She fixed food for sick friends and neighbors and cared for their well being when needed. She worked tirelessly at church with each form of ministry whether if be fellowship, children’s ministry, youth ministry, senior ministry and prayer ministry. If anyone needed prayer, Mary was the person to be contacted. Mary attended Pleasant Grove Assembly of God and spent most of her free time serving God. Mary had a smile that radiated her Christ like personality to everyone. You never saw Mary without that beautiful smile. She is also remembered for her banana pudding and chicken and dumplings. Whenever there was a church event, Mary was asked to bring one or both of these dishes. Mary met her second husband, Richard at church. The two of them together had so much fun and love for one another. Mary and Richard started each day with their Bible reading together. They loved to travel to the beach a couple of times a year and spend time with their enormous amount of friends. Mary was a true Angel on this earth and she is a true Angel in Heaven today.
Mary is survived by her husband, Richard Adams, son, Paul Smith (Cindy), daughter Yvonne Segrest (John), son, Mickey Smith (Belinda), son, Steve Smith (Kandy), stepdaughter, Kathy Tanner (Steve). Mary has 14 grandchildren; Steven Smith (Jackie), Nina White (Matt), Michael Smith (Jill), Jesse Smith, Elise White (Josh), Allison Segrest, John Rogers Segrest, Emily Pennington, Caitlin Ray (Shane), RaShae Robinson (Keith), Terry Killough (Celia), Jana Willoughby (James), Nick Tanner, Elyse Tanner. 25 great-grandchildren, Marianna, Joel, and A.J. Smith, Aliana, Maggie, Kensley, and Evie White, Steele and Abram Smith, Sully and Maddie Kate Willoughby, Kendall, Benjamin, Natalie Reeves, Layla Robinson, Kason, Kamdyn, Kainah Killough, June and Robert White, Landon and Piper Pennington, Harper, Collins and Ella Ray. Mary is also survived by an abundance of friends of all ages.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Assembly, 611 Pleasant Grove Road, Pleasant Grove, Alabama 35127. Burial will follow at Patterson-Forest Grove Memorial Gardens. Rev. John White and Rev. Larry Turner officiaiting.
