Mary was preceded in death by her husband Joe Ray Humphries, parents James and Louise Stone, as well as her siblings James Stone Jr. and Sylvia Kirkland. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Barry Humphries and Todd Humphries (Suzy), along with her grandchildren: Barry Humphries Jr. (Maci), Matthew Humphries (Keri), Dylan Humphries (Josie), Annalee Humphries, and Jacob Humphries (Heaven). As a first-generation college graduate in her family, Mary’s passion for education led her to teach and mentor countless children and young adults. Faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she served in several churches across western Jefferson County. Mary instilled her Christian values in her children, nieces, nephews, and everyone she encountered.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who tirelessly provided friendship, care, and comfort during Mary’s final days. Their compassion was a true blessing from God.
Mary found joy in gardening, and her flowers brought beauty to her life and the lives of others. A self-proclaimed “Saban Chick”, her and her puppies, Sambo and Sassi, cheered on Alabama football and her favorite coach, Nick Saban.
Mary’s love for her family and others drove her to help others in need. Throughout her life, she found a way to look after the needs of others. Her passion for helping was evident in her life long donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the love she share.
