Lillie Emogene "Jean" Newell Mccrary
April 14, 1931 — October 3, 2023
Lillie Emogene Newell (Jean) McCrary, aged 92, of Bessemer, AL, passed away Tuesday October 3rd. She was born April 14, 1931 to parents Carlos William Newell and Mamie Hestella Parker Newell. A former member and daycare worker at Brookland Baptist Church, she led a quiet life of service and caregiving to others.
Her survivors include sons Ronald, David (Lori), Nelson (Tim), and daughters Diane Taylor (Bob) and Melinda, together with seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by husband Byron McCrary, daughter-in-law Patricia Ann Bobo McCrary, granddaughter Carol Rebecca McCrary, son-in-law Bill Avery, and beloved friend Virginia “Kansas” Petit.
She was also the lone survivor of seven siblings: Edna Earline Flood, Mary Pauline English, Claudius Carlos (Bud) Newell, Clara Eloise Newell, Billy Merrill Newell, Geraldine Bena Young and Brenda Kaye Myrick.
Funeral services for Mrs. McCrary will be held Monday, October 9th, at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home in Pleasant Grove, AL. The family will be received at 10:00, with open visitation beginning at 11:00. A memorial service will begin at 12:00, with interment to follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, AL.
