Mr. Joseph David Coan, age 72 of Pleasant Grove, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025
at his residence. David was born July 26, 1952, to the late Joseph Claude “JC” and Ruby Wallace Coan in Birmingham. He is also predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law JoAnn and Jere Patterson and his brother; Robert Coan.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 49 years, Teri C. Coan; sons, Joseph Q. Coan (Mackenzie) and Adam L. Coan (Martha); brothers, Jimmy W. Coan (Lynda) and Jerry A. Coan (Patty); grandchildren, Annabelle L. Coan and Willa B. Coan; grand dogs, Stella, Mouton, Goofus and Milo.
David retired from the Birmingham News after 47 years of service. He was a former Deacon of Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church. David loved to sing solo’s even though he only had one lung; his favorite song to sing was “Daystar”. He loved gospel music and watching old western style movies with John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart. His favorite movie was “The Quiet Man” which described him perfectly.
David enjoyed spending time with his family and his cherished grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the sunrise, especially at the beach. Some of his favorite times were spent celebrating special moments at The Bright Star restaurant with his favorite waitress, BJ. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later time.
David was an avid Alabama fan. He would always send out a special message on Facebook and it would only be fitting to end his obituary with the same message:
ROLL TIDE EVERYBODY, WE LOVE Y’ALL!
