John Howard Buchanan, age 65, died peacefully at St. Vincent's Hospital on Saturday, March 21, from a brief illness. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Paul A. Buchanan, Jr., and Marian K. Buchanan. John is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lady Anne, his brother Paul A. Buchanan, III (Ina), his sister Sharon Buchanan Ryan, his Aunt Judith Buchanan Gaiser (Ron), many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved dog, Johnny May. John resided in Vestavia HiIls, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law David Ryan. John graduated from Mountain Brook High School. He attended Auburn University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from UAB. He received a JD degree from the Birmingham School of Law. He worked for BHATE Environmental and for the last 22 years he was employed by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management in Montgomery. He was a member of The Club. John loved visiting his wife's family in Michigan, Florida, and Oklahoma City. He enjoyed vacationing in Panama City, playing golf with his wife and brother, watching Auburn football with friends, sharing Thanksgiving with family and cooking ribs for family. His wife would like to thank The Rev. Canon Craig Smalley and all of the staff at St. Vincent's Hospital. A memorial service for John will be held at a later date.
