James C. Smith, age 74, of Pleasant Grove, AL, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 31, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born May 13, 1944 to Tucker and Vora Lee (Warren) Smith. James spent his childhood in Bessemer and settled in Pleasant Grove as an adult. He was a military veteran who served his country in the Navy, and a US Steel retiree.
James is survived by his children: Karen Smith, Jamie (Ray) Osborn, Melanie (Danny) Smith-Morris, James Smith, Jr. “Buddy”; Grandchildren: Madison Smith, Ashley Hinesley, Taylor Currin, Shae McDonald, Kennedy Massey, Austin Osborn, Chase Smith, and Mason Smith; Great Grandchildren: Robert Currin, Zoey Leath, Jason Stout, Tucker Stout, Karsen Hinesley, and Olivia McDonald; Brothers: Edward (Sandy) McAfee, and Buford (Lynn) Smith. James will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
James was preceded in death by his father, Tucker Smith (August 1993), and his mother, Vora Lee Smith (June 2008).
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 5, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at PATTERSON-FOREST GROVE FUNERAL HOME, 1498 5TH Avenue, Pleasant Grove, with funeral services being held Thursday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. Burial immediately following at FOREST GROVE MEMORIAL GARDENS.
