J.D. Mims Jr.
June 20, 1941 — December 6, 2022
J.D. Mims Jr of Hueytown, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on December 6th, 2022. He was 81 years old, born on June, 20, 1941. J.D. grew up in Pratt City, Alabama. After high school he joined the Air Force in 1960 where he served four years active duty and two years reserve duty. J.D. was an entrepreneur his entire life. He owned an independent insurance agency for many years prior to transitioning to custom home building and retiring in 2014.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jady D. Mims and Ella Mae Mims, as well as 18 full and half siblings. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Mims, his sons, Michael Mims (Martha), Scott Mims (Jill), his grandson, Christopher Mims (Matthew), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his canine travel companion, Coco.
J.D. enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and Alabama football. He also enjoyed owning classic vehicles and spending time operating heavy equipment he owned.
J.D. loved his family, as well as his church family and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Hueytown, AL.
Services will be held Friday, December 9th, 2022 at Patterson -Forest Grove Funeral Home 1498 5th Avenue, Pleasant Grove, AL 35127. Visitation 11:00AM – 12:00 PM. Service at 12:00PM followed by a short graveside service. Rev. Kyle Sullivan officiating service.
