Georgene Mitchell Cleckler (Gean) was born on October 24, 1937 and passed peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2024 at the age of 86. Gean is preceded in death by her father Coach Oren Prentice (Piggy) Mitchell, her mother Agnes Burnett Mitchell and her sister Kayrene (Kay) Mitchell Golsan.
Gean was a graduate of West End High School where she met her sweetheart, Tommy Cleckler. After five years of dating, they married in 1957 and were happily married for 67 years. Gene is survived not only by her husband Tom, she is also survived by her daughter Kim Cleckler Turner (Paul), and son Charles (Chuck) Prentice Cleckler. Gean was better known as “Ma” to her beloved grandchildren, Haley Prentiss Turner Miller (Brett), Bryan Mitchell Turner, Jonathan Matthew Turner, Evie Rose Cleckler, and Isabelle Gean Cleckler
Gean spent 30 years faithfully serving as the Office Administrator along side her husband Tom at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Alabama. “Coach and Mrs. C.” as they were fondly called by the staff and Club members, truly led the organization as a team and grew the Club to serve over 9000 children across four Central Alabama counties. Mrs. C. was the heart of the Boys & Girls Club. Her ability to connect with the children and parents helped her positively impact the lives of thousands of families in our community.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:30 am-12:00 pm on Friday, August 30, 2024, at North Highlands Baptist Church in Hueytown, AL. A Celebration of Life will immediately start at noon.
Interment will be held following the ceremony at Patterson-Forest Grove cemetery in Pleasant Grove. Reverend Paul Turner will be officiating.
