Christine White Church
March 16, 1934 — June 30, 2021
Christine White Church, 87 of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, was carried gently into the arms of Jesus on June 30, 2021. After forty-one days of sickness and blindness, her eyes were opened to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We celebrate her overwhelming joy as she worships God in His glorious
presence. Our mom is now reunited with our dad and many loved ones. Christine was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a prayer warrior and a grace filled lady with strong faith in Jesus Christ. Christine was a devoted mother and was so proud of
Perry, Preston, Steve and each of their families. She would light up talking about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who all had their own special names for her (Granny, Mawmaw and Grandma). She loved them all so much and they all love and adore her. She also enjoyed being at
home, visiting family in Tuscaloosa, her flowers, cooking and gospel music.
She was born on March 16, 1934 in Kennedy, Alabama and was raised in Reform with her large family of 11 (her parents, 7 girls and 2 boys). She was the third oldest of her siblings and they worked the farm every day to provide food for their family. She loved her family with all her heart.
Early in her 20’s, she worked in a photography studio processing and printing photos and worked hard to buy her dad his first car. Our mom then married our dad, Claude Church, Jr., in 1955 and they had 3 sons and in 1965 moved to Birmingham and raised their family.
She worked in the 1980’s as manager at Hickory Farms in Western Hills Mall, then she went on to work for Eckerd’s/Rite Aid in Five Points West for over 30 years and truly loved her job. She was so dedicated rarely missing a day of work. She made many special friends throughout her years there. She officially retired in March 2020 at the age of 86.
Christine was selfless, kind, humble and had such a gentle spirit and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Claude Preston Church, Jr.; parents, William Nazareth White and Virgie Lee Tyner White; sisters, Edna Earl Nickoles and Annie Gay Baines. She is survived by her sons, Perry Church (Kathy), Preston Church (Doris), Steve Church (Pattie); grandchildren, Nacole Jones (David), Justin Church (Casey), Kyle Church (Kelsey), Amber Goodwin (Adam), Brent Church, Jessica Church; great grandchildren, Eleanor, Emmeline, Charlie, Roslyn, Chase, Sawyer, Brittany and one bundle of joy due in September; siblings, Bessie Mae Harris, Shirley Jean Wyatt, Leon White (Nancy), Mary Lois Plowman (Leon), Bruce White, Glenda Fay White; numerous nieces and nephews
and her dearest, best friend, Janice Reese. Visitation will be Saturday, July 3, 2021 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home. The burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery Forest Grove Memorial Gardens. Rev. Leon White officiating. Pall Bearers will be Justin Church, Kyle Church, Brent Church, Adam Goodwin, David Jones and Mike Neely.
