Bobby Gene Smitherman
February 10, 1936 — February 26, 2022
Bobby Gene Smitherman, a life-long resident of Hueytown, Alabama, died peacefully at his home on February 26, 2022.
Bobby was born on February 10, 1936, in Marvel, Alabama, to Clyde and Odell Smitherman. He proudly served in the Airforce National Guard. Bobby was an avid fisherman and loved Alabama Crimson Tide football. He would often reminisce of his own days playing football at Hueytown High School where he was an outstanding center and kicker. He graduated in the Class of 1954.
Bobby was also a master gardener and loved to share the fruits of his labor with family and friends every season. Tomatoes were his specialty and he loved teaching others to cultivate the soil with a delicate balance of care and attention that always yielded a perfectly delicious, garden-fresh, home-grown tomato.
Bobby married, Charlotte Annette Smitherman, on December 30, 1961. The two were each other’s lifelong companion and friend. They were blessed with two children: Scott and Steve. Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Smitherman; his two sons, Scott (Michelle) Smitherman of Jacksonville, FL and Steve Smitherman of Nashville, TN; his two grandchildren, Zach and Zoe Smitherman of Nashville, TN; and niece, Michelle Smitherman of Americus, GA.
Her is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Odell Smitherman: his brother, Alton “Ed” Smitherman and sister-in law, Emily Smitherman.
