Betty Sue Vice, born a “coal miner’s daughter” in Edgewater, AL on April 2, 1937 passed away July 15, 2024. She was born into a loving Christian family and said the most important decision she ever made was accepting Jesus Christ as her personal savior.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend; to know her was a blessing and her memory will be forever cherished. Always generous with “I Love You”, Sue ensured each person in her life knew they were special and to see yourself through her eyes was the greatest gift.
Sue lived an extraordinary and abundant life – raising children, finding fulfillment in her work at Pleasant Grove City Hall and Alagasco, traveling extensively, and creating family memories at every opportunity. She was a woman of great spirit who was always quick with a smart remark and uplifting word. She was also a woman of great character and fortitude. In moments of adversity, she remained grounded in her faith and unwavering in her praise to God.
She spent her years in service to others – working in the church nursery, teaching 3rd grade Sunday School, volunteering at Camp Baldwin, discipling to Nursing Home residents, and ministering through the Homebound Program. She found joy showering others with love and telling them about Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, G.E. McCrary and Gertrude Wood McCrary; her beloved son Craig Stephen Vice; brothers Charles Edward McCrary (Thelma), Byron McCrary (Jean), and Bobby McCrary (Mary Ellen); sisters Evelyn Goode (D.W.) and Pat White (Bob). She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Jack Vice; son Chris Vice; daughter Cheri Vice; grandchildren Cara Vice, Cody Vice (Courtney), Rebecca Curtis (Austin), Rachel Vice, and Nolan Vice; great-granddaughters Caroline Rollins Vice and Emma Craig Curtis; sister-in-law Patricia McCrary; daughter-in-law, Tracy Reaves; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank those that ministered to Sue in her final days: her hospice team, Mallory, Lorraine, Sherita, and David; her faithful caregiver Tan; the many friends who stopped by. We rejoice today that she has gone home to our Heavenly Father and find peace in the knowledge that we will one day be reunited again.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at First Baptist Pleasant Grove. Funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place in Patterson-Forest Grove Cemetery. Brother Bill Sears officiating.
