Annie Boykin Garrett, 95, of Birmingham, passed away on April 25, 2022. She was a longtime member of Ford’s Chapel CME, served on the Stewardess Board, was chairman of the Usher Board, and was a Sunday school teacher. A current member of Faith Chapel and served on the wisdom ministry. She was also a retiree from the Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity (JCCEO).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Douglas and Amanda Winn Boykin; husband of 37 years, Eugene Garrett, Sr.; son, Eugene Garrett, Jr.; daughter, Brenda Garrett Lewis; daughter-in-law, Christine Garrett; son-in-law, Chris Allen.
She is survived by her sons, George Edward Garrett (BeAnn) and Freddie Leon Garrett (Josephine); daughters, Rhonda Rene Garrett Allen and Verna Danita Garrett; grandchildren, Henderson Alexander (Mary Hosley), Redford Michigan, Marcus Cargill, Detroit, Michigan, La’Rhonda Renee Garrett Wheelington (Chadd), St. Louis, Missouri, G’Juan E. Garrett, Brandon D. Lewis, Tamera Garrett Jones (Quincey), Houston, Texas, Dr. Kristen Allen Watts (Deaushay), Kaitlin Allen Walden (Ross); great-grandchildren, Chrishelle Nicole Alexander and Breanna Renae Alexander (Detroit, Michigan), Ajanae Deanna Alexander, Oak Park Michigan, Aaron Taylor (Essence) and Alexander Harvey, St. Louis Missouri, Brandon Coleman, Meagan Jones, Julian Watts; great-great-grandchildren, Johnathan Malik Simpson. Oak Park, Michigan, and Aeva Taylor, St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, Dorothy Jones, Stockbridge, Georgia, and Evelyn Harris, Elyria, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mabel Boykin, Henrico, Virginia; special friend and caregiver, Angela Smith; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. The visitation will be Friday, April 29, 2022, from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Family Hour is from 5-6 PM at Patterson Forest Grove Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, April 30 at noon in the chapel, with burial in GW Carver Cemetery. Rev. Freddie L. Garrett is officiating.
