James Michael "Mike" Moran

James Michael (Mike) Moran, age 44 of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, passed away February 12, 2015 after an extended illness. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday February 13,2015 at Patterson Forest Grove Funeral Home, 1498 5th Avenue (Forest Road), Pleasant Grove, Alabama. Interment will be at 11:00 AM pm Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Forest Grove Memorial Gardens 1498 5th Avenue (Forest Road), Pleasant Grove, Alabama. The Reverends Buzz Barrett and Dr. Daven Watkins will be officiating. Mike was born in Fairfield Alabama on May 20, 1970 to James L. (Butch) and Mary Kirksey Moran. He had one brother, Ed Moran. He grew up in Ensley, Alabama and graduated from Midfield High School. Mike was a member of First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove and a former member of Central Park United Methodist Church. Mike loved his two daughters, Ashley and Bethany, enjoyed his girls’ activities and coached their softball teams. Mike attended Auburn University, graduated from the University of Alabama School of Nursing with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing in 1995 and earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) in 2001. He was awarded the UAB University Hospital Excellence in Nursing Award in 2003. He had worked at UAB Hospital, Kirklin Clinic and Honda Motor Company as both a nurse and nurse practitioner and while at UAB, was instrumental in the development and management of the Cardiac Resuscitation Team (MET). Mike loved Auburn Tiger football and hunting. He is survived by the mother of his children, Valerie Lawley Moran, daughters Ashley Brooke Moran and Bethany Olivia Moran, his parents, James Larry (Butch) and Mary Kirksey Moran, and a brother, William Edward (Ed) Moran (Bernice), niece Jenna Moran and nephew Sean Moran, and Aunt Patsy Moran Campbell. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles E. and Aline Wiggins Kirksey and paternal grandparents, James E. Moran and Inez Sharp Moran. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove Youth Ministry, 724 4th Street, Pleasant Grove, Alabama, 35127. We wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of UAB Hospital, Lakeshore Rehab and the Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate and extraordinary care and comfort received by Mike and his family.
