Ralph Ray "Hawthorne" Roton
November 10, 1930 – April 7, 2017. Ralph Ray “Hawthorne” Roton, age 86 of Midfield, Alabama, the son of the late Lucy Radford Roton and Austin Banks Roton peacefully passed away on April 7, 2017, in Lillian, Alabama with his daughters by his side. Ralph was a Master Electrician. He owned and operated South Central Electric, Inc. for many years and retired from United States Steel Corporation. He was a former member of the Industrial Developmental Board of the City of Midfield and served on the Chancellor’s Board of Regents of Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA. He has been commended by the Missions for the Homeless, Law Enforcement, Prison Wardens, Chaplin’s, and State Prison Directors for his gifts of Bibles to the poor, prisoners, and anyone in need of the word of God. He was a longtime member of Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church and he loved and served the Lord. He was a Master and earned 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Birmingham, and a Shriner, charter member of Zamora Temple’s Antique Car Unit. Ralph’s first love was writing and music composition. He traveled and studied extensively to accomplish success in this endeavor. He was a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and a Professional Member of the Gospel Music Association under the pseudonyms of Ralph R, Ralph Ray and Hawthorne. He wrote and arranged hundreds of songs, lyrics and tributes for King James Music a Christian music company he established many years ago. His legacy will be left for all to enjoy and sing praise to the Lord. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and son, Clay Lewis Roton. He is survived by his children, Daniel Ralph Roton, Lenard Michael Roton, Brenda Roton Jordon, Russell Mark Roton, Paige Roton Jackson, and Peyton Roton Walthall, ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 9 AM until service time at 11 AM at Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama.
