Paul Gaines Griffis

Deceased: 11/28/16

Paul Gaines Griffis was born on October 13, 1934, into a wonderful Christian family. On November 28, 2016, as we said our goodbyes to our wonderful husband, daddy, pawpaw and friend, he was welcomed into Heaven by Jesus his Lord and Savior, by his parents Leonard Burns Griffis Sr and Carrie Mae Griffis, by his brothers Leonard Griffis Jr. Joseph L. Griffis (Jo Carolyn), his sister: Dorothy Griffis Defnall (Ernest), nephews: Mark Griffis (Patricia), Barry Griffis and Gaines L. Defnall. On November 21, 1952, Paul hired in at Hayes Aircraft (Penco Areoplex) until Feb. 2000 where he worked as a sheet metal worker and airforce employee with top security clearance to travel around the U.S. and to Guam to enhance the war effort of Vietnam. He took great pride in his work. On Dec. 21, 1952, Paul married the love of his life, Donna Sabatini Griffis who is left to cherish his many wonderful memories. Also left to cherish his memory are his three daughters: Noel Griffis Tidwell (J.P.), Nancy Griffis Hamden (Larry) and Paula Griffis Woodall (Jerry), Son: Todd Andrew Griffis and his two furry caregivers Molly and Daisy. Grandchildren: Brian Tidwell (Kristin), Dana Darden (Philip), Daniel Dean, Shelly Hamden, Matthew Hamden (Jessica), Haley Bishop (Andrew), Jared Woodall and Justin Woodall. Great-grandchildren: Madison Tidwell, Parker Tidwell, Drake Ridlehoover, Cohen Hamden and Aubrey Noel Darden. Nephews: Johnny (Teresa),Tom (Marsha), Don (Angie). Also numerous extended family members and friends. Paul was a member of Pike Ave. Baptist Church from 1944 where he accepted Jesus as his Savior, until 1999 when the church was sold. He was an ordained Deacon. He and his wife joined the loving fellowship of Hillview Baptist Church in 2000 where they have many loving friends. Paul was an avid Alabama Fan his whole life. In his younger days he loved driving race cars, scuba diving, hunting, golfing and attended all of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities. He loved playing rook and dominos and he loved the beach and the mountains. The main thing about Paul is that he loved his family and wanted them around him at all times. He is now in the arms of Jesus who we praise for letting us have him for as long as we did and for taking him out of his pain. Services for Paul are as follows: Visitation on Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. with the Funeral on Thursday Morning at 10:00. Both services will be held at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home, 1498 5th Ave. Pleasant Grove AL. 35127. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Memorial Gardens. Rev. Mark Barber and Rev. Billy Garner officiating. The family would like to thank his Doctors and Nurses at Princeton Hospital MICU for such loving care. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Paul's name to Hillview Baptist Church, 800 Heflin Ave. East, Birmingham, AL. 35214
