William A. Priest
Mr. William A. Priest, age 90, died of natural causes Wednesday, June 15, 2016. A native of Birmingham, Mr Priest graduated from Ramsey High School where he was on the track team and played clarinet in the band. Mr. Priest enrolled in Auburn University where he continued his education until the advent of WWII. At that time he put his education on hold and joined the Army Air Corps, a pre-decision to the Air Force, as a cadet, he soon became a pilot and a 2nd Lt. After returning to Birmingham, Mr. Priest enrolled in the University of Alabama where he graduated with a degree in geology. During his time at UA he was a member of the boxing team and the track and field team where he excelled at the pole vault. He was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. When the Korean War broke out Mr. Priest went back into the service of his country. With his extensive experience flying bombers he attained the rank of captain. Mr. Priest flew many missions including bomber jets, carrying paratroopers, piloting gliders and the first U.S. Air Force jets. Many of these missions. were flying night reconnaissance missions. Mr. Priest is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Dasher Priest and his two sons; William A. Priest Jr. and Charles Dasher Priest. He is survived by his beloved sister; Mary P. Mace, of Melbourne, FL. His daughter-in-law; Patricia Priest, of Remlap, AL. His 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held for the family. The family request that in lieu of flowers or gifts donations be made to the Alabama Head Injury Foundation.in Mr. Priest memory. Mr. Priest son Charlie, proudly represented AHIF as their executive director for 25 years.
