Milford C. (Hoagy) Hogelin
92, passed away on Sunday, June 27, following a brief illness. Born in Guthrie Center, Iowa, he graduated from Iowa State University School of Forestry in 1939. Hoagy took a position with the USFS in the Oakmulgee District, Centreville, AL. It was here that he met and married Maryanna Thompson, the love of his life of 69 wonderful years. He served in the US Navy during WWII as an officer in a photo recon unit in Guam. He later took a position as a forester with TCI (US Steel) in the Land Department, retiring in 1980 as supervisor of forest land resources for USS. During his working career, the family lived in Bessemer, then returned to Centreville, AL. Recently he and his wife moved to Regency Retirement Village in Homewood.Hoagy is survived by his wife, Maryanna; brother Richard(Nancy) of McCalla, AL; son Russell (Nancy) of Centreville, AL; daughter Jan Malone (Lairn)of Umatilla, FL; grandchildren Amanda Tse (Freddy), Anna Hogelin,Thomas Hogelin, Abby Hogelin, Kelly Malone, Scott Malone (Christy),and Matthew Malone. Life Celebration is planned for late July. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences is appreciated.
