Katie McCravy Hankins

Katie McCravy Hankins passed away on March 5, 2016. She was born at her home in Cullman County, AL. on June 4, 1944 to parents Flora O. McCravy and L.C. "Bill" McCravy. The family moved to Birmingham when Katie was seven years old. She attended Birmingham city schools graduating from Phillips High School in 1962. In November, after graduation, she married James "Sonny" Hankins. They were parents of three sons. Katie was employed with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office and retired in 2004 after 27 years of service. After retirement, she worked part-time at the Adamsville Public Library. Katie enjoyed reading, spending time at the lake or beach, traveling and quilting. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Katie is predeceased by her parents, son David A. Hankins, niece Leslie McCravy, and brother Phillip McCravy. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, two sons and their spouses- Jimmy and Tracy Hankins, Steve and Sherry Hankins, daughter-in-law Laura Hankins. Grandchildren; Debbie (Jonas) Nix, Jay, Sam, Olivia and Natalie Hankins. One great-grandson Barrett Nix. She is also survived by one sister, Margie Mullins. Two brothers, Billy McCravy (Vernell) and Larry McCravy (Debbie), sister-in-law; Tommie Jean McCravy along with extended family and friends. Funeral services will be at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home, Pleasant Grove, AL. on Tuesday, March 8 at 2:00 P.M.. Visitation will begin at 12:00. Burial will follow at Forest Grove memorial Gardens. Charles McCravy officiating.
