Carl Douglas

Deceased: 11/27/15

April 18, 1928 - November 27, 2015. Carl Douglas, of Sylvan Springs, AL, passed away on November 27th in Longmont CO with his son, Carl and daughter-in-law, Lisa by his side. Carl was born on April 18th, 1928 to Inez Fritts Douglas of Wylam Alabama and grew up in the Wylam neighborhood. He joined the Marine Corps when he was 16 years old and served as part of a Marine Corps Ship Sea Duty Detachment. After serving his country, Carl came back home to Alabama and started working in the rail yard for US Steel where he would retire as Superintenent of Transporation. Carl met and married the love of his life, Miss Jean Corry, in 1960. They would spend 50 blessed years together and inspired many people as a great example of what love and marriage should be. He loved to retell the story of how they met and the fact that he stole Jean away from his buddy who had been set up on a blind date with her the night they met. Carl was an avid motorcyclist and worked in a Honda dealership after his US Steele retirement. He and Jean spent many years traveling the country on their Honda Goldwing. When he didn't have a helmet on, he could always be seen with a cowboy hat (but never inside a building). Some of his fondest memories were the trips that he and Jean would take through the Smoky Mountains, across the western US, and into Canada with no timeline or schedule. Carl was a family man dedicated to his wife and kids. He was a stickler for manners, a “tough as nails” Marine, and a great example of what hard work looked like. He never met a stranger and had an infectious laugh. His grandkids affectionately called him “HaHa” from the time that they could speak. Carl was preceded in death by his sweetheart Jean in 2010 and longed for the day and time when he would be reunited with her again in heaven. They are no doubt holding hands and dancing the night away and would want us to rejoice in their reunion. Carl is survived by his two daughters Charlotte Douglas of Monroe, NC; Dianne Douglas Davidson of Washington DC and her husband, Stephen Davidson; his son Carl F. Douglas Sr. and his wife, Lisa Douglas of Mead, CO, his 8 grandchildren, Shane Naugher and his wife Sharena Naugher, Kelly Wallis and her husband Billy Wallis, Carla Julian, Frank Reese Julian Jr. and his wife Kathryn Julian, Angelica Julian Perez and her husband Fredy Perez, Dalton Julian, Carl F. Douglas Jr. and his wife Stephanie Aguirre, and Katelin Douglas, and his 9 great-grandchildren, Skylee Naugher, Sayer Naugher, Sutton Naugher, Ashlynn Wallis, Emma Wallis, Barrett Wallis, Lillian Rodriguez, Maite Douglas, and Daniella Perez. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec 3rd. 11:00-12:00 followed immediately by service at 12:00 at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home.
