Charles Hershel Vickers
Charles Hershel Vickers, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015.
He joined the Navy during World War II serving on the USS North Carolina. After serving 6 years he attended the University of Alabama earning a bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Master’s and A.A. degree in school administration.
He retired in 1985 from the Jefferson County School System after teaching band at Hueytown High School for 15 years and choir at Pittman Jr. High for 15 years. He played bass violin in the Birmingham Symphony and numerous musical productions in and around the Birmingham area.
He was a longtime member of Hueytown First United Methodist Church where he also served as choir director for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Illie Lee Vickers, mother, Eva Dell Vickers, and brother, Saxton Vickers.
He is survived by his wife, Meredith Price Vickers, children: Charles H. Vickers Jr. (Debbie) and John Lee Vickers (Paula), grandchildren: Brandy Motes(Michael), Brooke Wilkins(Jay), Tyler Vickers(Alyssa), Whitney Vickers, Colton Vickers, great-grandchildren: Emily Motes, Eli Motes, Isaac Wilkins, Maris Vickers, and sister Willa Dean Marlaire (Leon).
Funeral service will be held at Hueytown First United Methodist Church on Saturday March 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation preceding the service from 9-11 am. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove.

Mr Vickers was a good man. I am happy he had a long life and a long retirement.
